The Book of Tea
The best Christmas present I got only arrived last week. It’s an an early edition of The Book of Tea. It says a lot about wilful misunderstandings of the East at the time, and a lot more besides that seems timeless. My favorite so far, following directly from much on Taoism, Chinese history, and differences between East and West:
The afternoon glow is brightening the bamboos, the fountains are bubbling with delight, the soughing of the pines is heard in our kettle. Let us dream of evanescence, and linger in the beautiful foolishness of things.
